BUKIT LANJAN: There are ‘good and bad apples’ on both sides of the political divide

It is not wrong to say that politicians have been politicking since the 12th General Election (GE12) and this does not augur well for Malaysians and Malaysia.

“Until today, politicians and Malaysians have been hammering one another to win or sustain political mileage. This is absolutely bad.

“After a general election, by right and common sense dictates, elected politicians who claim they are serving in the best interest of the rakyat (people) and country should stop politicking and focus on national unity and good governance efforts.

“Has that been the case since GE12?” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

“How do you expect Malaysians and Malaysia to progress when there is no focus on good governance from both sides of the political divide.

“When it is not election time, politicians should focus on coming up with ideas on how to innovate and be creative in coming up with fresh ideas and proposals to help forward Malaysians and Malaysia progressively towards positive socio-economic development.

“Instead, we continue to take political confrontational stands, with some even displaying the attitude of providing blind political support.”
Unity is strength for a community and nation.

Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), said “I am a new politician who is trying to contest in a general election for the first time”.

“I am also trying to advocate Malaysians to think out of the box and to elect politicians who are truly honest, sincere and fearless to serve their constituents.

“Just judge what I have been posting in my two blogs (
http://syedabdulrazakalsagoff.blogspot.my/ and http://bukitlanjan.blogspot.my/) and see whether I have been consistent and sincere.

“Yet, many are quick to criticise me as ‘useless’ in a good for nothing party (Gerakan). Let me say this to them. There are good and bad apples from both sides of the political divide. Admit that. Period.

“In hurling criticisms, cast away emotions, judge with common sense and the use of intelligence. And, most of all face political reality and the reality of life.

“Every political party has its constraints, weaknesses and limitations as they serve Malaysians. Likewise, politicians also face the same predicaments,” he added.

Therefore, Syed Razak stressed that “it is unfair to judge any GE candidate based only on party affiliation”.

“They should be judged based on their political record (if any, because there are many new faces), their academic qualifications, their sincerity and consistency in what they say and how they act.

“Definitely not just because one is from this party or that party. When a state assembly or Parliament is dominated by sincere politicians, then all else should fall in place for good governance and for the general good of Malaysians and Malaysia,” he added.

Syed Razak said: “Politicians are elected to serve their constituents. Not only for their party. Thus, politicians must always speak up for them without fear or favour.

“Politicians must have their own mind and values for their constituents. And to serve to the best of their ability in seeking ways or funds to benefit their constituents in development in any way.”

Syed Razak reiterated that his political conviction, mission and hope “is to be given a chance, for the first time, to serve Bukit Lanjan folks sincerely”.

“And, as I have stressed many times in my blogs, the pillars and foundation of achieving success for Bukit Lanjan is to forge National Unity or neigbourhood unity and focus on nation-building efforts or programmes for my constituents,” he added.

  1. Having walked the corridors of power, I can state for a fact there are a mediocre lot out there. Self centred and couldn't care less is their mantra. Pek Moh Syed can make that difference. To take up the rights and aspirations of the rakyat. It doesnt matter which ticket he is riding on. Does the Party matter ? We need results not efforts. Fear not the fear but fear that the Rakyat wants a model person to look after their interests. Be it a wheel chair or a deserving scholarship recipient. Let us decide on Bukit Lanjan without fear or favour. That's the least we can do, instead of remonstrating after it has been done and dusted. Peace & Salam Sejahtera.
