BUKIT LANJAN: A ‘death trap’ for the disabled and blind?
Government enforcement and approving authorities, and contractors are urged to use their brains and common sense when carrying out public works.

“Give some thought to the disabled and visually handicapped when carrying out public works, “ Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

He said someone shared the above picture on WhatsApp claiming that the piping, obstructing a pedestrain walkway, was supposedly approved by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL or KL City Hall) somewhere in the federal capital city.

“Imagine the difficulty for the disabled and blind to navigate this potential death trap!” he added.

Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan, said whoever was responsible for installing the piping across the pedestrian walkway should be reprimanded for “such an uncaring and thoughtless” public work.

“All government enforcement and approving authorities, and contractors, especially those in Bukit Lanjan, must ensure that such a boo boo did not recur.

“The above picture should serve as a serious reminder to all who are carrying out public works to give some thought to the disabled and the blind before carrying out their projects.

“Don’t just blindly go ahead with any work,” he added.
