If Singapore premier Lee Hsien Loong can publicly admit that Singapore is backward in certain ways, what then is Malaysia?

“Malaysians and Malaysia, especially its leaders and professionals, must change their mindsets and drop their ego to be effective leaders to the rakyat (people) and country,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

“We must all face reality if we want real progress for our rakyat dan negara (people and country). Real progress cannot be achieved by just thumping our chest or by blowing our own trumpet.

Shiok sendiri (self glorification) will not get Malaysians and Malaysia anywhere in the long-term,” he added.

Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), said socio-political leaders “must face reality, admit the weaknesses in our system of governance, and make sincere administrative decisions for the general good of rakyat dan negara”.
