The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is one of the most important ministries for the rakyat (people) and communities.
If you care to visit the ministry’s website or google for stories and activities related to the ministry, you will find that it is tasked with wide-ranging responsibilities to serve the welfare of Malaysians.
“This is why I took time to attend the ministry’s Hari Raya Open House her today (Wed, July 5, 2017) upon receiving an invitation,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.
He said it was one of his top political priority to establish a strong and good working relationship with the ministry for the benefit of N.37 Bukit Lanjan.
“Only with a strong and healthy working relationship can I hope to deliver the best and as much as possible to the Bukit Lanjan folk,” he added.

“The most challenging task for me in Bukit Lanjan is welfare work. And that is why I intend to appoint a welfare officer in my team,” he added.
He pointed out that one of the ministry’s latest challenge “is the ministry’s proposal to have a family support division in civil courts for alimony aid.
“This is a very pressing matter because a total of 4,939 divorce cases among non-Muslim couples were recorded as of September 2016 and the number continues to rise.
“The divorce rate among Muslim couples is even higher, with 63,463 cases last year (2016),” he added.

"Women's ministry wants family support division in civil courts for alimony aid
By NOORSILA ABD MAJID - May 12, 2017 @ 8:18pm
PUTRAJAYA: The Women and Family Development Councils (MPWK) wants the government to set up a Family Support Division (FSD) in civil courts to help divorced women claim alimony from their former husbands.
The resolution was made at the 2017 MPWK Convention that ended here today.
The convention was attended by the Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Azizah Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Dun.
Also present was the director-general of the Department of Women Development, Datuk Yatimah Sarjiman.
“Right now, we only have FSD in the Syariah courts. Non-Muslim women need similar help in getting the alimony that they deserve for their children when they are divorced from their husbands,” Azizah told reporters after the closing the two-day convention.
A total of 4,939 divorce cases among non-Muslim couples were recorded as of September 2016 and according to Azizah, the number continues to rise.
The 300-strong MPWK delegates from 222 parliamentary constituencies across the country also proposed the setting up of a Mediation Department for both the civil and Syariah courts to provide counselling for troubled couples.
“Couples who are headed for a divorce can be called in for counselling. Hopefully, we can bring down our divorce rate,” Azizah said.
