BUKIT LANJAN: MACC! What’s the outcome of buying Tan Sri probe?

It has been more than three months since the Sultan of Johor revealed he had received a RM2 million offer from an individual to propose his name to the Chief Secretary to the Government to obtain the honorific title, ‘Tan Sri’ from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The media had also reported that a man who is linked to an attempt to bribe the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar for a title award has surrendered to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters on March 30, 2017.

“What has happened to the case that is being investigated by MACC?” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

He said the case was of high public interest and that it affects the dignity of the King and country.

“I would suppose the MACC would have treated the case with urgency and given top priority since the complaint was made by the Sultan of Johor,” he added.

Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), said “by now, the MACC and the Attorney-General’s Chamber are expected to have decided on the case, whether to prosecute the culprit or not”.

“Like what the blogger, The Patriot, had posted on April 6, 2017, the rakyat (people) deserve to know who had succeeded in securing honorific titles for money.

“Those found guilty of buying honorific titles should also be stripped of the titles with immediate effect, while the royal recommender or receiver of the bribe should be revealed,” he added.

Here are two articles on the issue:

REVEAL THE "ROYAL" CULPRIT

The Panglima Mangku Negara (PMN)
The Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM)
As I read the recent expose on the attempted bribery to secure the honorific title of "Tan Sri", I asked myself how one can have the gall to approach HRH The Sultan of Johor and make the offer.

What drove him to it and what made him feel comfortable enough to do it? Well the buck had to stop somewhere, and this particular "Tan Sri" dialled the wrong number.

The purchase and sale of honorific titles from states have been widely known as an "open secret". I offer no prizes for the right answer to one most notorious in that respect.

But until recently there was nothing in the air to suggest that federal titles too were being compromised.

It is interesting to observe the revelations by the accused "Tan Sri" who in recent years have allegedly procured and profited from the sales and purchases of these titles.

Yes, it has also been revealed that he was paid a lot more than he offered to the recommender of such titles perhaps irking the latter even more after its discovery.

Honorific titles should be reserved for those who have served the country with honours and not sold to high bidders.

Many have died and were maimed in the line of duty to defend this country and have medals less befitting of their deeds pinned on their coffins. It therefore disgusts me to think that these non deserving characters who perhaps would be the first to flee the country in desperate times can flaunt their chested medals just by corrupting royalty.

The people deserve to know who have succeeded in securing the titles for money and which of the culprit or royal household is responsible for this gross miscarriage of the country's highest honours.

Those Who Have Been Proven To Be Guilty Of Buying The Titles Should Henceforth Be Stripped Of Them With Immediate Effect While The Royal Recommender Or Receiver Of The Bribe Should Be Revealed.

The Persons May Have Immunity From Conviction Or Be Granted A Pardon. But The People Must See Them For Who They Really Are.

The Country's Honours Must Never Be Put To The Bid Lest It Will Diminish The Very Dignity Of Our "Negaraku Initiative".

PUTRAJAYA, March 30 — A man who is linked to an attempt to bribe the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar for a title award has surrendered to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here today.

MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Azam Baki said the 54-year-old suspect gave himself up a few hours after the MACC issued a warning.

“Investigations are still in progress,” he said when contacted.

At an MACC Excellent Service Award this morning, Azam said the suspect was given up to midnight to surrender.

Media representatives who gathered at the MACC headquarters however, did not spot the man.

However, they saw two lawyers, believed to be representing the man, enter the MACC building at 5pm.

It was learnt the man had turned up alone to surrender to the authorities.

On March 25, the Sultan of Johor revealed he had received a RM2 million offer from an individual to propose his name to the Chief Secretary to the Government to obtain the honorific title, ‘Tan Sri’ from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. — Bernama/malaymailonline
